Galatians 3:6-29 talks about Abraham’s faith, how that kind of faith is counted as righteousness, and that if we, today, possess that same kind of faith in God, we are Abraham’s seed.

Specifically, that faith is in Jesus Christ, who was promised to come through Abraham’s descendants; and because we have that faith, we are the seed that came from that Seed.

So, what about the Law that came through Moses to the Israelites? The promise of the seed came first, the Law was later written so that man would see in the physical what violations of righteousness were being committed in the spiritual.

Jesus always was. The promise came first, but if we believe in Christ, we are no longer under that schoolmaster (implemented to teach us what sin is), that substitute, that babysitter, Law. Gal. 3:21-25

Where does that leave us? The promise of the Seed was made before the Law. The Law can’t abolish God’s promise; indeed, nothing can.

So, this Law was set in place to expose men to their sins and acts of sins, thereby proving they were guilty of being sinful and needed at Savior. But, it was in place only until the fulfillment of the Seed should come. Christ.

He came to take away the sins of the world, and is available to all, received by those who believe by faith.

The just shall live by faith, as Abraham did; counted as righteous. Thus, being Abraham’s seed.

Truth is progressive …

It’s like seeing someone afar off; they haven’t moved, haven’t changed, you know who it is.

But, as you get closer other things are revealed: the color they’re wearing, their facial expression, exact details of their hair …

It had been like that before you got there …

Yes, you realize that now.

It was always there …

Always remained constant …

And as you get closer to it, what you couldn’t see, what you couldn’t discern before—TRUTH—is more revealed.

In the wake of a much anticipated snow storm, I was traveling to work when I saw a little girl with (assuming it was) her mother at a bus stop. To tell you the truth, I barely noticed the woman, it was the child that needed her own 15 minutes of fame on television.

The snow ploughs had done their jobs and piled the banks high on the far side of the bus stop. My little starlet was dressed in pink from head to toe, bound up, face wrapped in a white, wool scarf.

I might have missed her altogether if it hadn’t been for her movement. The child lay in the snow. Still. Within a second, she jerked and lifted her body, landing on her side. And again. Laying still.

The pink fluff manoeuvred to her knees, had another self-inflicted conniption and flopped like a fish in the piled snow, landing on her back again. Another flop and she was on her side.

I wanted to laugh. It wasn’t a display of a bad temper. The little girl was thoroughly enjoying the snow.

I last saw her stand to her feet, glance at her mother for a status check, then lose all structure to her body as she collapsed again in a still, crumpled mass on her side.

How many of us have an experience like that within the glory of God? Just abandon inhibition and, however you land, you land. How many of us can be free enough in our spiritual walk to enjoy God enough to cushion us after the storm, knowing he provided the storm in the first place and the opportunity for us to enjoy the aftermath?

The girl flopping in the snow, she had right. She had to experience it every which way.

When she found out when my birthday was she said, “Oh, you’re a Scorpio,” to which I responded only that my birthday is October 27. She said, “Yeah, you’re a Scorpio.” I had to clarify and tell her that I don’t believe in those things, my birthday is on October 27, “Stars don’t rule my destiny,” I said, “the God who made the stars does.”

She then said, “God, stars, you.” I told her, “God, me, stars. I tell the stars what to do.”

I guess she started feeling uncomfortable, maybe she thought I was just being difficult or pigheaded to understand, because she left.

A few weeks later she brought up the subject again, reminding me of what I had said. This time, it became clear to me that some people are more caught up with the mystical and “fate” than they are with the strategy and direction from God.

Is it easier to say that this is your destiny because objects that can’t see or feel or hear or answer prayer say it is? For me it’s easier to say that this is my destiny because God said so. Why not cut right to the chase? God allows, God disallows, all for my good and his glory.

In the second conversation, my co-worker was perusing a newspaper and came across the horoscopes. “Scorpio, your ….,” whatever she went on with I didn’t hear and didn’t wait for her to finish, but I said, “No thanks, I’ve already prayed, I’m covered.” She hadn’t heard what I’d said so I repeated louder, and a few other people to heard. “No thanks, I’ve already prayed, I’m covered.” My co-worker answered with, “Oh, so did I, but you never know.” I was surprised, thinking, if you already went to the source why go to the shadow? I simply smiled and said, “I know.” She said something I couldn’t hear, and went back to work.

And that’s my question for you to ponder, if you’ve already gone to the source why go to a shadow? If you are a child of God (accepted him as your personal savior, relinquishing the things of the world, and living for him) then you have a crown of stars, but they’re there for your glory, not you for theirs!

Have you ever been bitten by a snake? Not many. Have you ever been bitten by a mosquito? Many can say yes. And that bite hurts, doesn’t it?

That’s a physical hurt that we know will pass in time, but getting through that stage is painful, irritating, often considered unnecessary, and a constant reminder of what happened to us. To some, it is a physical sting of death.

As believers in Christ, the sting of death is sin. We were all born into a life and a world of sin. Romans 5:12-15 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.”

Just as one can be saved by an antidote for a snake, so Christ has become the redeemer of life that was poisoned by the sting of death.

When you are caught with the aftermath of being stung by something physical, be reminded of how easy it is for us to be stung by giving in to sin. When struck with a pimple or a cold sore, be reminded of sins we can commit against our own bodies; that stinging reminder that we need to be healed of this malady.

Sin is the sting of death, so be prepared to counteract any attack. Be as Ephesians 6 instructs and where your armor. Be ready, alert, watchful, prayerful, faithful and devoted to God. Because God gives life, and he gives it abundantly.

The oil really is a healing balm, let it run down to reinforce the thighs, the knee joints, the calves, the ankles. It continues to run down, effervescent to you, spreading to your feet.

Jesus’ feet were anointed with a precious oil and then with tears of both relief and anguish.

Our journey will involve days of joy and sweet perfume, but also days of heartache and lamentation. The woman with the alabaster box cried tears of joy, but they only turned so after she underwent uncertainty of whether a perfect, holy God would forgive her.

Ever feel like that? Even as saints sometimes we encounter days when we wonder why El Shadai bothers to remain with us. Man. It’s so easy for us to say, do and simply think the wrong thing. The journey of Life is on our side only. God already sees the outcome and he loved you into his plan anyway.

At times we desire to be so saturated with this anointing that we wish it would take over our lives and leave us with as little of our will as possible so we wouldn’t mess up again. But it is our own feet that need to take us in the direction we need to go, because obedience is a high skill that God necessitates if we want his life. Whose will will you follow?

Your feet need to go where God directs. Your feet need to follow him. Your feet need to be still when he wants you to be still. Afterall, I’m sure it’s your feet that dance in victory when you’re happy.

Though we are encased with his anointing it is still up to us to carry out the will of the Father. It won’t do the actions for us. When you put olive oil into a pan it is to help to cook the meat. It’s the meat that you’re focused on, not the helping agent.

There are many analogies: a car, a bike, release something that’s stuck. What is your oil from the horn designed to help you complete?

Once, this spiritual body was dead, naked, dirty and bloody, but God awakened you, cleaned you, washed you, clothed you with gifts, armor and purpose.

God’s hand has completed the turn, the flask is empty, the last drop oozes down. This unique blessing has been poured out from head to shoulders to knees to toes, not as a dampening agent but for empowerment. Remember the “carrot is still a carrot”? God chose you. Think of how awesome that is.

Live this life in his anointing.

You are soaked. Your hands are dripping, your feet are dripping, and this is where life, painted in glory, begins.

When all is finished God wants you to be in a certain place and his anointing on your life will take you there.

The blessing comes with much help if you use those knees for kneeling in prayer. We’ve all sidetracked and tried to take the road that appeared easier, because, let’s face it, we get tired, and oftentimes we want to give in altogether.

There’s shame in saying that your knees buckle, but there shouldn’t be. Anyone who’s been on this road knows all about that feeling, those injuries, we’re just sometimes shy to show the scars. But scars we have.

At the writing of this, mine are fresh.

As a singer, songwriter, worship leader, and musician, I went through a depression of faith that went past knocking me to my knees, it knocked me off of my knees. There was a point where I didn’t want music anymore—all the artisans gasp. But I truly I wasn’t interested in music. Hearing people talk about God was annoying, even though I always felt him there, stable, firm, patient, giving leeway for me to realize there was nothing out in the world for me; anchoring me—because, he would never let us get too far.

I don’t want anyone to feel how I felt, but God forbid you reach there, remember that God remains an imposing presence in your life. Grant him sovereignty in your life, trust him to hold your heart again, for what he’d started, he will inevitably finish. And prayer to stay in the right direction, even when he hasn’t given a marker for a while, is very important.

It takes a lot to gain strength in the knees again—the legs, the thighs—but you know it is needed just as much as the shoulders, if you are going to carry the responsibility of this life. You can’t get up unless you regain the power. And from experience, I know the potency doesn’t feel like it’s coming, but I’ve gotten up anyway, and taken my tentative steps, learning and growing how to function with my new limbs.

The oil really is a healing balm, let it run down to reinforce the thighs, the knee joints, the calves, the ankles. It continues to run down, effervescent to you, spreading to your feet …

The head holds the eyes so you can envision what is set before you. It takes time for a vision or dream to come to pass, but only an instant for them to last forever. How many things do you do that impact the physical world with family, friends, strangers? Our lives should be attracting people to the kingdom, and that is what is everlasting.

Drip.

Your shoulders are being anointed to carry the weight that has come with this new responsibility …

The weight of the world and the government were on the shoulders of Jesus, the Christ (Anointed One). To whom much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more (Luke 12:28).

Some people say that only broken, hurting, and dependent people believe in God, but it takes great strength to live this life. Did you think it would be easy? Jesus, the Anointed One, the first fruit of our salvation had to be crushed in order for the oil to come forth from him.

Sometimes it feels as though the weight of the world on your shoulders, but only your measure of anointing will keep you from buckling under that weight. No one can function in the extreme atmosphere of their duties without the anointing. They’ll fail.

Let this odorous oil leak down the arms that are designed to draw, to touch and agree and pray, and then to chastise, correct and strike in battle. God led His people with a strong arm, he was their battleaxe. But he also kept them cool from the desert’s scorching heat as a pillar of cloud, then kept them warm from the steep drop in temperature with a fireball. To hold close or to hold aloft and reprimand is in the power of the arms.

The bodice houses the temple of God and the beating heart of man. Without a body the head is leader of nothing for all other extremities unfold from here. Here is the bosom for comfort, compassion and nurturing and must be protected. The back holds your framework. It is strong and structured.
Now the anointing runs down your legs determining where you will go and where you will end up …

His arm turns and something amazing is about to pour out onto your life. In Luke 18:41, Jesus asks, What wilt though that I shall do unto thee? Jesus didn’t ask what he could do for him, but he expressed he was going to present something unto his life.

A carrot is still a carrot, a beet is still a beet and a potato is still a potato. In other words, you’re still going to call them what they are before you pull them out of the dirt, nothing changes their reality after you’ve washed off all the mud. In the mire, in the muck, among the stones, God saw you. He said he wanted you. He knows what he planted and knows exactly what it will produce.

Get ready.

It’s on your head. The head, the head. The command center and leader of everything. All orders, experiences and blessings must first hit the head. The head, because anything reaching the head will trickle down. The head, because if anything is going to happen to the body, the head must tell the body how to answer.

Know that what you have pouring and smeared all over your head is designed by God. Man can’t give you this elevation. Everyone who has accomplished something great or has a great gift, has given credit to a higher power, whether they say it’s the Lord or not; lending credit that, as they are limited, they were given abilities from some thing or some one greater.

They had a dream and a vision in their minds that they realized. In the mind, if you can think it you can accomplish it. Herein is your battlefield and school of reason. What the head conceives to accomplish, the body will consummate. The head hears the word of the Lord—physically or spiritually. The head holds the eyes so you can envision what is set before you. It takes time for a vision or dream to come to pass, but only an instant for them to last forever. How many things do you do that impact the physical world with family, friends, strangers? Our lives should be attracting people to the kingdom, and that is what is everlasting.

Drip.

Now that I’ve recovered from a computer virus, let’s look at something else you want to keep a virus out of; your body; the spiritual body. And we know there is a balm, an ointment, an anointing.

Saturated for Service (posted Dec 2008), “Let’s look at one definition of anointing. After Jesus’ resurrection, many of his followers were called Christians. Christian means “Christ-like” and Christ is “His Anointed One.” The Hebrew word chrio is used, and is in reference to smearing only human vessels with oil, as when setting aside priests, prophets and kings for service. (Ex 28:41, 1 Sam 10:1, 1 Kings 19:16) …

… This particular mixture of oils was not to be duplicated. It was for God’s anointed alone, and was a pleasing, aromatic fragrance. Anyone who tried to replicate it would be excommunicated. You cannot replicate what the Holy Spirit endows.”

I like to think that when we worship God (as a lifestyle) it is a pleasing aroma to him.

His anointing flows down, and so we must start with the head. In God’s left hand (of servitude, judgement and command) is the horn. The heavy oil was mixed then sealed in the horn with wax, now cold and hardened, as it waited for the time through Time to be released upon you, just like when David was to be anointed as king. Only when it is above your head can it supernaturally flow, because it is mixed uniquely for you. And it will work specifically for you because it came from the left hand, it must serve, judge and obey his command.

His arm turns and something amazing is about to pour out onto your life. In Luke 18:41, Jesus asks, What wilt though that I shall do unto thee? I find it interesting that Jesus didn’t ask what he could do for him, but he expressed he was going to present something unto his life, implied it would be everlasting. Yes, the Father wants to endow you despite, in your human flaws, how dirty and grungy you are before this process.

A carrot is still a carrot, a beet is still a beet and a potato is still a potato. In other words, you’re still going to call them what they are before you pull them out of the dirt, nothing changes their reality after you’ve washed off all the mud. You’re still going to eat and say it was a carrot from start to finish. When you plant the seed you call it what it shall be. In the mire, in the muck, among the stones, God saw you. He said he wanted you. He knows what he planted and knows exactly what it will produce.

Get ready.

Back from hiatus and it feels good.

I know I’m on the right track. For the past few weeks, the scriptures and topics that I’ve been studying, or the things I want to prepare for the blog, have all been voiced from the pulpit or during Bible studies at my local church.

Sometimes I say I’m not going to use certain things because people may think I’m just copying what the preacher said. But it’s really not what the preacher said. It may have come out of his or her mouth, but it’s really the Spirit of God relaying a message through them, and he doesn’t speak through just one person. God usually confirms things three times with me, so I’m not copying what man said, I’m helping to establish the foundation of what the Lord has laid.

Lately, I’ve been thinking of an old lady I saw several months ago. She was old, I don’t know how old, but at a guess, I would say late 80s. Four feet, some inches, Black; dare I say, feeble looking. I spotted her while I was riding the bus one night, and she was standing between a bus stop and a stoplight. I assume the bus driver thought she was waiting for the light to change and drove right on by.

I saw her face as we passed, her arm flap in disappointment at the prospect of having to walk or wait for another bus. The next stop was mine, and I wanted to know if she really was waiting for a bus, but since the stop was so far away, I couldn’t spot her. As I walked up the block to catch my transfer, I spotted the bus coming, and curiosity turned my head to where I saw Little-Old-Lady making a mad dash to catch this bus.

No way could she make it: the distance, her age, the darkness. I smiled. She was perseverant. I was the last to board the next bus, and told the driver that there was a little old lady coming, if he wanted to wait. “Where is she?” he asked. I turned and pointed; “Way across the parking lot.”

She didn’t slow down, she didn’t falter, whatever was driving her wouldn’t let her give up. I made my way to the back door, and was glad the young driver decided to wait. The look on his face was shock. Little-Old-Lady got on the bus and thanked him for waiting, for which he didn’t take credit, but said to thank the young lady. She took a seat, looked for a face to say thank you to, and finding none, just gave a grateful wave to the crowd.

I just stood stunned. Amazed. I never would have guessed that she could make the dash and not stop for breath. Not even gasping for air once she got on the bus. She was smaller than I had first thought, still looked feeble, but I had witnessed her great strength and stamina. I saw her achieve something people half her age couldn’t do.

It’s a small thing, but I will always remember it, how grateful she was to have caught the bus; and I think of when we are weak and feeble and timid, and feel like we’re not going to make it, how God becomes the source of our strength (II Samuel 22:29-35, Palms 18:2, Isaiah 35:3-6). Just as Elijah was able to outrun King Ahab’s chariot (I Kings 18:45-46), so we should have an expectancy to be girded up to run in the LORD.

Are you on hiatus? I know I haven’t tapped the surface of what’s really in my mind, but you know what; it’s always best to start running than to sit and do nothing, missing your opportunity. You never know who you’re going to bless. So be bold, be strong, my friends, for the LORD your God is with you, withersoever you go.

I have a small decorative jar on my entertainment stand—one that I’ve had for many years—that has the word Hope on it. The opposite side reminds me that all things are possible with God.

One day I looked at the jar, which I have filled with smooth stones, and thought of King David.

David had experience as a defender using his sling and stones, and also using his bare hands in combat with fierce enemies, but no one really talks about those battles. If David hadn’t won those battles, there would be no “David and Goliath” to speak of. He forged himself behind the scenes before any great battle was made public.

The things I go through, the hurts I feel, private battles I fight; what if … what if I were to empty my jar and put in a stone every time I won a battle? What if we all were to kept a tangible record every time we had a victory?

This isn’t a counting game, but a reminder every time we look at our jars: this is what the Lord has done. Many battles we face in private, even with the prayers of others, there are some things we must face, and prove God, alone.

These behind-the-scenes-battles can, at times, be lost in the shuffle of everyday life, and we forget the goodness of God. It feels like as soon as we finish one struggle and come up for air, another controversy presents itself. One after the other. One after the other. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.” Psalms 34:19.

Know that the Lord has brought you a mighty long way. Look at the stones in your jar. You may discover that he is doing more for you than you realized. Here’s a stone for a victory that God awarded you, here’s another for the prayer he caused to come to pass. One after the other. One after the other.

I’ve just emptied my jar. It’s no longer a decoration, but a documenter. It has one stone. And, as I fill it up I’m encouraged to have Hope in God, and that all things are possible with him.

A man walked in to my workplace the other day, slapped a resume onto my desk and said, “Unemployed and smiling.”

He wasn’t timid, wasn’t angry, wasn’t abrasive in any way. He made me smile. After a very brief talk he turned to leave and said, “Hopefully I’ll get something before winter.”

A man who looks like he could bench press a pickup truck came in very humble and happy. I pray that he does find something very soon, a job that will make him happy, maybe even glad that he’s not employed at his previous job because the new one is so much better.

I pray his latter days are better than the former. I pray he has some inkling of an idea how he made me—or others—feel by his open attitude, and also pray that he won’t be discouraged.

I pray these things because he made a child of God glad. That’s all. The stranger had blessed me. I felt delighted that I had witnessed his behavior, and it made my day.

In the Bible, Paul wrote that in whatsoever state he was in, he was content (Philippians 4:11). I have not been content in many things, but I’m learning. And at times it takes a lot of reminding for some of us to come to a state of contentment.

Unemployed, in this realm, is any discomfort that we will experience in life. In II Corinthians 4:8-9, Paul also wrote, “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.”

Smiling is our attitude and total assurance that God already has us protected from whatever is trying to scare us.

The child of God can endure these things because the tolerance is not accomplished by our own power, but of God’s. How much unemployment can you take? My dear friend, all of it.

I want to remember this feeling the next time I want to gripe.

“Unemployed and smiling.”

I’ve asked myself some hard questions of late and realized that I’ve allowed the things around me to dictate how I act and react towards God. I thought that if Christians are to win the lost we need to sometimes lower our standard to accommodate or be able to relate to them.

No. We may come down to the level of others, but that doesn’t mean the Christian standard is lowered. If I’m on a cliff side helping someone up, one hand is anchored at a level above me as the other reaches down to take hold of that person. My standard didn’t lower, my reach did.

Jesus was among them (he spoke with anyone, cared about everyone) but he shared the standard of none of them; I am expected to be the same way by patterning.

Since when does winning the lost require that God’s people lower the God-standard? Just because we are trying to win the lost, that doesn’t mean we have to sound like them, look like them, smell like them. Some people are like that because they are just coming out of that place and they know how to relate, but their standards raise with time to the level God has set.

When Jesus went before the high priest, the people came to Peter and said that he sounded like Jesus. His speech betrayed him (being a Galilean), but many Galileans were in town so there was something special about Peter. This tells me that there was a certain way they behaved, spoke, carried themselves.

Where has that gone? Has the Church moved? Outward appearance and uttering Bible verses isn’t what this is about. It’s not what a man can convince is happening inside. Peter was trying everything not to be like Jesus, but Christ had come off on him.

Today we have the Bible to guide us and the Spirit who speaks to us. Has anyone silenced these two witnesses inside of you? Has anyone bewitched you (convinced you) that it doesn’t take this God-standard anymore? Hmm. Says who? Who made up the rules in the first place?

God did.

God made the rules and as far as he is concerned they haven’t changed It’s up to man to come to his standard. I thoroughly enjoy the age we live in, there are so many conveniences and luxuries, but that doesn’t mean anyone has a right to slack off on the requirements of the Kingdom.

In answering those hard questions I knew I had a lot of work to do. We all need to do it.

If the gates of hell can’t prevail against the Kingdom of God, then the Church has not moved, but we have moved from the definition of what the Church should be, and we are to be the Church. Let’s get back to it.

The God-standard stands.

James 1:11-21. There is so much to explore in these verses concerning temptation that there is no way I can exhaust them in the coming paragraphs. I’m sure that further revelation and a much trained scholar is required. But, I want to touch on what I was shown, and perhaps we can all investigate this again at a later date.

I’m taking a running start from verse 11 because I like the analogy of the sun’s heat burning up what started out as luscious life. Vegetation needs the sun in order to grow. The nutrient energy received from the sun and what the atmosphere produces are necessary to make the plant green, to have it give back by producing oxygen—photosynthesis anyone? Yet this same ingredient, mandatory to life, is what takes life away when it’s received and absorbed in full force.

Verse twelve then takes us to temptation. Now, I’m not saying that temptation is a necessary requirement to anyone’s survival, but rather to make you aware of a desire that may spring up as a result of temptation.

It’s easier said than done, but focusing on God and being rapt in him enables us to guard our spirits against this temptation, and to fortify ourselves to eventually overcome it. When you don’t have a taste for something, it doesn’t entice you.

Verse 14 says, But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Desire is a good, human, necessary compulsion that can, unfortunately, be turned into something unsavory and ungodly if the trigger-temptation is presented. Many people are not tempted to kill, even though the thought crosses everyone’s minds; the need to self mutilate doesn’t appeal to most of us either. If confronted with our own lust (a temptation that awakens that special secret thing in us) this thing will all-of-a-sudden surface. We can’t stop thinking about it, and we are enticed to act upon it.

Don’t err, the Bible tells us, in thinking that God sent this thing. Why would a God who tortured himself and promised to give us his Kingdom bring anything before us that would draw us away from focusing on him? He wants to be our main thought.

God’s “temptations” don’t draw us away from him; they are exercises he allows in our lives that build up our spiritual awareness of who he is. Sometimes we need to allow our children to make mistakes, not in anything that is harmful, but in things that will teach them. God may allow a test, but he will not force you into one: “Lead me not into temptation.”

He will never allow an exercise that damages our relationship. God provides the substance that can take care of our needs. He will “deliver us from evil.” The sun may scorch us, but God is the restoring water that comes up through our roots. We are aware that we are facing the heat, but also that God knows it and has supplied the reservoir needed for our survival.

Blessed are we when we endure this temptation (heat, haze, scorching, dry winds, wilderness), for we shall receive a reward.

VizionStories Writes is one year old!

One year. Wow.

I started blogging to share the gospel and encouragement, and to give you a different point of view and food for thought. The process has changed me, challenged me.

Also a year ago, I was recovering from Shingles. This was not a pleasant experience, and even less pleasant was the stress I went through which brought me to that point, but, God has been good; and recovery—physically, emotionally and spiritually—has been a learning experience.

This has caused me to wonder what recoveries others experienced over the past year. What has caused you to take a deep breath, reset your thinking, and start over?

Don’t be afraid to start over if it is for the right reason. There are times when I wish I could reboot like I’m clearing my computer. I want a clean slate and I vow “I’ll never go though that again.” But somewhere inside I know I haven’t learned what I need to learn to continue, and if I did continue without graduating, the enemy would assault me, leaving me in a worse state than when I started.

There are no do-overs in life, only start-overs. I pray whatever it is that has tested you over the past year, or may still be testing you, you will be able to endure so that next year that obstacle will be under your feet!

We can’t rush the process. What we can do is trust God and know that he knows how to work out whatever we are going through. That’s hard when he’s not standing in front of us, physically preventing us from trying to “take care of it ourselves” because we think he forgot how to do the job.

We all know that in our minds we think that time is running out, even though God has brought us through similar situations. In the mind we think that we are the only ones experiencing these situations/thoughts/trials/burdens. If the enemy can bombard the operator of our understanding and reason (the mind), he will cause us to be confused, anxious, ignorant and unreasonable. When our faculty of reason is attacked, hasty and wrong decisions are made. Fear, pressure, hopelessness and the urgency to give in will inevitably take over.

Hindsight is 20/20, they say. We don’t have the luxury of hindsight when we are dead-smack in the middle of a situation, but God does. God sits on the circle of time, seeing all points of our lives, knowing our end. Has God been silent? Sometimes we look around and see everyone following a new revelation and we’re stuck with a word from years ago. You know what? Continue to do what God told you to do years ago. Abraham did, Joseph did, David did. God’s word didn’t change for them, they trusted him to deliver. You, like them, can say that you lived to see the reward from the Most High God.

Recheck those circumstances and situations that cause you undue stress and worry. Too much stress and worry will lead to physical problems that you don’t need to deal with. Just follow the leader. Follow the Leader, and avoid the false start. One day, maybe not next year, but one day, you will be able to say to yourself, Happy Anniversary.

– — –

Previously we discussed one of the terms of anointing: “Christian” defined as “Christ-like” and Christ is “His Anointed One” (chrio), referring to human vessels set aside for service, such as priests, prophets and kings (Jesus also being referred to as our priest, prophet and king).

We talked about the Father giving his Holy Spirit to teach us all things, that, with the Spirit, we are endued with power to carry out whatever task God has appointed; and also, it is the Spirit within you—saturating you—which defines you being anointed.

Chosen, smeared of God, priest, prophet, king, endued with his power, receiving the Holy Spirit. And yet, anointed people don’t always do anointed things. How can this be? Does God’s word return void? Did the Holy Spirit fail to do his part? When God called you did he make a mistake? No. Once it’s spoken, consider it an absolute. You can be given a shield and be instructed on how to protect yourself, but if you don’t hold it up, how do you expect not be injured?

This does not mean you’re not a soldier, only that you need to gain knowledge on how to prevent that breach from happening again. It also does not negate the fact that what you hold in your hand is still a shield.

What you hold is designed to give you power, to shield you, but instruction and skill take time. Many people are anointed to do a job that will not manifest itself for years, but they know what they are called to do; they study, learn and receive understanding of the calling many years before they actually sit in the office.

Take David, for example. He had skill and passion in watching his father’s sheep. He was anointed to be king more than a decade before he actually sat on the thrown. In that time was practice on how to transit from sheep to people. He perfected his warrior skills, his praising skills, and his leadership skills.

You are blessed with skills, so know that God has called you into a certain area. What are you practicing? Your transit depends on how you’re holding your covering. Your skills and integrity will be attacked, nevertheless, God’s Word—and anointing—were sent to you. Use it wisely through exercise and training. Work according to how your anointing is intended to work in you.

Whatsoever he has called you to, do it with all your might and passion, for you are saturated for service.

– — –

What Are We Talking About? “That person is so anointed…” “I’m anointed to…” “When you’re anointed you don’t need anyone telling you…” “My anointing is in…”

To be anointed means to be painted, to be smeared, to be soaked. It is to be dipped so heavily that you are drenched in the miraculous, dunamis power of God, and you are compelled to complete the task or position he had deemed to you. To have the anointing means you have God’s “yea” and “amen”. Sealed.

That’s what it means. But what is it? It is He.

Let’s look at one definition of anointing. After Jesus’ resurrection, many of his followers were called Christians. Christian means “Christ-like” and Christ is “His Anointed One”. The Hebrew word chrio is used, and is in reference to smearing only human vessels with oil, as when setting aside priests, prophets and kings for service. (Ex 28:41, 1 Sam 10:1, 1 Kings 19:16)

This particular mixture of oils was not to be duplicated. It was for God’s anointed alone, and was a pleasing, aromatic fragrance. Anyone who tried to replicate it would be excommunicated. You cannot replicate what the Holy Spirit endows, truly you will be cursed and cut off. (Acts 8:9-24)

In Luke 4:18 Jesus reveals he was sent to preach, to heal and to deliver. Jesus Christ (Jesus, His Anointed One) is set as a priest, prophet and king of them that believe. Now, if you believe in Jesus, you also believe in the “He” who sent him, the Father. And, it is the Father who gives all things; he gave Jesus his anointed, and he gave his Holy Spirit who teaches all things to us. It is the Holy Spirit, the pleasing and aromatic fragrance, who is the anointing in this case.

“But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” 1 John 2:27

The Holy Spirit is God’s promise, his earnest seal on us, that we should rely on our keeper (Holy Spirit). “Now it is God who makes us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” 2 Cor 1:21-22 NIV.

As mentioned earlier, this is God’s “yea” and “amen” because he is the unchangeable God. He does not give on a whim and take back as the plans of man or time can change and be unbalanced (2 Cor 1:18-20). It really is his promise. He will always keep his commitment to the covenant.

But anointed people don’t always do anointed things, so what does this say?

… We’ll take a look at this, and dig further into the anointing and its designations in the next segment.

– — –

WELCOME to VizionStories Writes, where you see the stories and see Zion (Vi-Zion) through ideas, thoughts, debates, lessons and theology.

Recently someone was reflecting on Heb 12:14 and said, “We need to live holy, because without holiness no man can see God.”

…that struck me. I was fascinated, only because, for some reason, I heard it resonate in a different way.

Can you see God in me? If I am not holy, God will not and indeed, cannot, be evident in me; I cannot comprehend (realize, figure out, discern, see or know) for myself, the greatness of God or the reality of him.

No one else will be able to see God in me either. The bible speaks about people not being able to see because they are blind in their minds. Some don’t want to perceive or accept the reality, more often than not, this is the choice of the individual, for a man who seeks God will always find him.

After our initial confession and accepting God as our Savior, we know that God is real. We are sanctified and justified by the Holy Spirit who allows us to recognize and communicate with God on this basis. It’s not us revealing God, but him revealing himself to us through a holy relationship. A holiness relationship. Now we can see him through the revelation of the Spirit.

If the relationship is severed, the individual is no longer living by the conditions of holiness, and cannot perceive the things of God. This is God’s holiness, it’s not something man has engineered or generated to reach God, it is an extension of God that we attach ourselves to in order to survive.

A person who strayed has disconnected and needs to come again to a place where they choose to live a holy life in order to see clearly. Rom 6:19b talks about how we once gave ourselves over to unrighteous living, but now must yield ourselves to holiness. God even chastens, or disciplines, us so that we can remain in holiness (Heb 12:7-10).

Only a holy life can commune in the presence of a holy God.

When you reflect on your life and know you’re living holily, you should see God at work. When others look at you, they should see, not holiness, but God who reigns in it. That’s the correlation.

We can’t see holiness, only the Lord can; but without it, no man can see the Lord.

That seems like a silly question to ask someone who says he is a believer, and it may be just a play on words to some, but it is a serious question.

Do you believe in the Tooth Fairy? Do you believe in the Easter Bunny? You should say that you don’t to those invented images. To believe in something is to believe in its existence. But don’t stop there.

Do you believe in Satan and his devils? Any follower of Christ should believe that devils do exist.

The real questions is; “Do you believe God?” Just believe. Not merely believing in his existence, but what he promised, believe what he said he would do and what he would not do. Well?

We should know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God exists and that we have an enemy that exists, Satan; however, we should also know that God’s word is true and that Satan is the father of nothing but lies. Don’t take the enemy’s word over God’s!

Discerning the difference comes through reading your bible, listening to God speak through others and directly to you in your spirit, and learning what he has designated you to accomplish (your purpose).

For some the struggle is believing he will speak through his word in this day and age. For others, believing that what they hear through others or in their spirit is really God speaking. And, some may tussle with the idea that they even have a task or tasks that God wants them to accomplish.

We need to remember to look past our limitations and only believe God. Believing in his existence is not enough. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? James 2:19-20. Some people feel safe to say that they believe in God, but my friends, know that acting on God’s word backs up what you proclaim. You say you believe God, but are you justifying that by living on every word that proceeds out of his mouth? I speak to myself as well, and challenge us all to live up to the word.

What do you believe in, and what do you believe? The latter is the real question, and every day we must choose.

– — –

I once thought that if I was gifted I could achieve great things. That’s not entirely true. Gifts from God enable me to minister, but, using and increasing the talents he bestows are what propels me to higher and greater things.

What’s the difference?

Some use the words talents and gifts interchangeably, but they could be compared to the old adage of giving a man a fish, or teaching him how to fish. You don’t have to do anything to receive a gift, it’s free, but you must work to increase a talent. If you give this proverbial man a fish every week he will have a gift for the rest of his life. Teach him how to fish, and he can use the talent to enhance ways to do it, and in time, to build an empire.

In Hebrew a talent was a literal form of currency, the highest mode of exchange, equaling tens of thousands of dollars if counted in gold. It could be given as a gift, but the purpose of a talent was to trade, to barter, to increase, to gain, and to reproduce. There is a parable of a very rich man giving talents to his servants (typing the heavenly Father creating man with talents). Two out of three of the servants worked with what they had and increased the initial amount.

The third servant, indisputably knowing his master’s will, decided to do nothing, he didn’t work, didn’t study, didn’t use what he had to improve himself, or the master, in any way. The rich man, not to have the talent lay around unproductive, took it and gave it to the servant willing to work to increase his master’s estate.

Which begs the question: what are you doing for God? You are God’s talent, something that is to be traded in the marketplace to become all things to all men, serving them in order to increase the Kingdom. The talent invested in you will determine the impact of your gifts to those around you.

It’s true, you do have at least one gift. Gifts should be given away, that’s what a “gift” is, and God does not want us to give him back the gifts he gave to us, he wants the increase, which is the product of the talent we used. He desires it just as the rich man in the parable.

They are to be used for the benefit (edification or reproof) of others. When we give to others, God will replenish us by having others give back. Luke 6:32 says; Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. This means what we give shall be returned to us again, and that with increase!

Even God’s word does not sit around and go back the same (Is. 55:11), it is active, it accomplishes and it prospers. Something is always added on to it. The rain comes down and waters the earth, and the earth brings forth its increase. There must be productivity from labor. That’s how God engineered creation.

Likewise the children of God, for we are also his creation. The Father’s will is for us to be productive in the Kingdom, let us therefore increase our talents and not have any taken away.

– — –

I recently read an article in which a woman stated she was an atheist, becoming so after the death of a close friend. It is sad to know that someone will give up on God because of one event.

There may have been extenuating circumstances and to her this was the last straw. Perhaps the woman had prayed and prayed, believing without a doubt that her friend would be healed, proving the power of God. And, when that didn’t happen she didn’t want to expect anything more for fear of being hurt again.

What circumstances have caused you to step back?

Do you choose not to hope because of undesired past experiences and hurt? Hope can never really be lost, but can be discarded or resolved. Hope is described as looking at a situation with confidence and expectation that it will turn out in our favour. We have the choice to discard the expectation, not wanting to be subject one way or the other “just in case” it doesn’t work out; or, it is resolved, whether or not that resolution is in our favour; but rest assured, there is always an outcome.

The problems in not wanting to believe in something come about when issues not resolved as we’d like prompt us to stop having hope.

Can you imagine living like that? Faith is the substance of things hoped for. If we don’t hope for something then we have no faith, for it defines the parameters to solidify our desires. That means hope comes before faith, it is the layer of the foundation, although everyone probably says that they have faith. What kind?

I think it’s safe to say that most people reading this believe there is a God. However, there is more than one type of faith. We can have faith that God exists (because man hopes and desires for a being more powerful than himself), but there are those who don’t possess faith that he will fulfill that which he said he would do. For those people, the existence of God does not equal the promises of God. They may argue, “He couldn’t have said that,” or “There’s no way God will do that for me,” or maybe, “That’s a big step, there’s no way that can happen.” Know that when we fail to have faith in his promises, that that is truly a hopeless life.

It is not enough just to know that God exists, for we must survive by every word he speaks. Be careful not to let a problem sway the mind to doubt what he has said. When situations don’t turn out the way we expect—I pray it will not drive any to the extreme of becoming an atheist—we need to still stand firm in the promises of God.

If you are not comfortable with your view on his Word, seek a closer relationship with him. The closer you are to a person, a good person, the more you trust them. God is immeasurably better.

In God, there is always something to hope for. If you are hurt by an unexpected outcome, take the hope that you have the strength to make it through the disappointment, and you know what, you will. A simple thing to say, we all know it’s easier said than done, but just because something isn’t easy, that does not mean it’s impossible.

So, think again, what circumstances have caused you to step back?

Remember this word the next time you are faced with a challenge, and don’t give up on hope, your faith is counting on it.

To be born again God requires a sincere heart in wanting him. One must believe in Jesus Christ and the work that he came to earth to do. The hard part belongs to the Father who already knows everything about us, and despite that, loves us, cleans us, and justifies—with himself—that we should be with him; the good news is, his work is already done! You may not feel it all the time, but believe it. The work is done! God looks at all we’ve done, and he still says; “I want all of you. I’ll clean you up, make you perfect, I’ll give you everything, and I’ll fight for you.”

Ps 103:2-5 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

[3] Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

[4] Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

[5] Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

The psalmist outlines a process, God forgiving, healing, delivering, adding to. This is the characteristic of a Father who wants us to share in his goodness. Why would he go through so much trouble if he didn’t love you? The choice to believe that love, and obey, allows us the rights to the inheritance of God. He laid it out in a book for us to follow and all it takes on our part is obedience to that spiritual law, his Word.

This is why we need to mend our spiritual lives before moving on, as described by The Jaimeson, Fausset and Brown Commentary, (spiritual) life must exist before godliness. There is no other way around it. We achieve this by accepting what the Father wants for us, and not what we want for ourselves.

Second Pet. 1:4 mentioned that we “have escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” The disobedience of the first Adam was a process, he lusted, ignoring his godliness (lust of the flesh), thereby bringing corruption into his life. Afterward, instead of repenting when confronted with the sin, he declined responsibility (pride of life), by blaming the gift God had given him (Eve). Since we have been given life and reconciliation, we cannot repeat the same old mistakes. Instead, allow God to heal, redeem, set us in authority and satisfy.

The bible says that God’s word goes forth and accomplishes what it was sent to do. This word is true. So if the word is not accomplishing, it is not the word that is the problem, it is the vessel. We’ve established that: Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.James 1:18, and that the Spirit of God is within us giving us “life.” We’ve also established that it is God’s will for us to be partakers of his divine nature. As sons, we have life in God, but it may still be an unproductive life, or, a barren life.

The disobedience of the sons leads to disinheritance as we saw with Adam. But, disobedience can also cause unproductiveness, leading to a lack of the inheritance; or, a crop failure of the inheritance. How can we, be fruitful and multiply and replenish as commanded in Genesis 1, if we are being disobedient? How can we be fruitful and multiply and replenish if we, as sons, are impotent?

Why are many of the sons of God impotent? Why do we speak a word and it falls to the ground, failing to produce? Why is this happening when we have successfully re-inherited the blessing, being reconciled to the Father?

Disobedience has caused many Kingdom sons to be unfruitful in that we fail to make the pregnancies needed to multiply by coupling God’s word with obedience in the spirit. Why do you think the whole earth is groaning, waiting for the adoption to wit? To wit is a legal term meaning to finalize, it is also interpreted as “the ability to perceive and understand; intelligence; keenness; quickness of perception or discernment.”

Knowing that God’s law had been violated (the crime of disobedience), the earth now awaits man to discern and understand, to perceive that the sonship is once again available through nothing else but obedience to God.

In the parable of the rich man letting out his vineyard to workers, they were charged with caring for “the kingdom” but along the way their views were skewed. They knew what they were doing was wrong, recognizing the Son of God, but the pride of life caused them to want to run the kingdom their own way, they wanted to be lords, prompting them to commit murder (natural/spiritual) in order to attain it. In the end the inheritance was ripped from them and given to others.

Consider the man driven to murdering his innocent, loyal servant in order to cover up prior sins. When faced with someone else’s crime, the man was filled with righteous indignation and wanted the other offender to be punished by death. But he was supposed to be a godly man, a man after God’s own heart.

God had told David he had given him everything to make his life comfortable, and if that wasn’t enough, he would have given him more. Yet, impotence to maintain the law arose, leading to adultery, fabrication of lies, and an unjustified execution, not only of Bathsheba’s husband, but their first born son. This son, although an innocent production and a good thing, was ultimately a crop failure. Because of this, despite David being a son, lost an inheritance through the crime of disobedience, not only for himself, but for his descendents, as God ruled there would always be war within his family.

These parables and true life stories are extremes, we as Spirit-living children of God don’t go around committing murder—or do we? Anger, unforgiveness, slander; ok, perhaps not that extreme either, what about selfishness in all it’s forms: not giving, looking out for number one, driving to get ahead of someone else. These are all things to look out for.

It was mentioned earlier that “for those, who (many times) may fail to realize, understand, or heed the will of God,” they will submit to the influence of a sinful nature. Therefore, do you recognize crimes of disobedience? More importantly, do you recognize creation is waiting for us to wit; to perceive and discern and to understand the place and the power we have in God as his own sons to overcome?

How or what have you produced? How or what has resulted in crop failure? Have you been obedient? It’s not easy, but it is necessary.

Disobedience, in all it’s forms; Sons, I caution you, do not lose your inheritance over this crime.

In the last issue we reviewed the fall of man, separation from God, the loss of the spiritual-life inheritance, and loss of the physical inheritance of the dominion of the earth. We took a look at James 1:14-18; seeing how man—in illustration, Adam and the human race—is tempted vs.14; seeing the end result of giving in to temptation vs. 15; realizing that vs. 16; God, who loves us, would not subject his precious creations to obstacles that would draw us from him, vs. 17; because , Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. vs. 18.

God wants us, and, God wants us to be close to him.

In part two of Crimes of Disobedience let’s begin the focus of what happens when God reaches out to restore those who have been alienated from him through disobedience after they have come into relationship with him.

“Crime,” as stated before, is defined as a breach or violation against an instituted law, and God’s spiritual law was defiled, (the introduction of sin into man’s conscience). This disobedience is from the first Adam, causing the fall of man, and so all humankind was displaced and subject to penalty. But, for those who (many times) may fail to realize, understand, or heed the will of God, and therefore submit to the influence of a sinful nature, God has already set in place provision for man to turn back to him, be clean, and most importantly, be restored!

First John chapters 1 and 2 discuss the crime of disobedience and then list the realms of sin: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. But he is adamant to say that even though some may fall, there is restoration through Christ. The reinstatement is a fact; we have an advocate with the Father, who is Jesus Christ. Having this, we also have the help of the Holy Spirit.

Heeding to the will, teaching, and warnings of the Holy Spirit (obedience), allows us to avoid the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life

Those who come to God, and come back to him, must believe that he is able to keep them from a life of fault. Believe that he is, and that he rewards those who seek and believe in him, as outlined in Heb 11:6 (sometimes noted as the Hall of Faith). Believing and having faith that God can obliterate our sins, and that he desires us as his sons, is paramount. This is why he gave Jesus Christ to die, by planning this seed, he would harvest back many more sons.

In addition, since the will and guidance of the Father is taught to us through his Spirit, the wisdom of the Father is given by his Spirit, and protection is given by his Spirit, doesn’t this tell you, sons, that all things are possible with him? Doesn’t this tell you that you can do all things through the Christ who strengthens you? You have the person of the Holy Spirit on your side, and he is unstoppable.

By coming under the covering of a father who desires us above all else, and being restored as sons, we have regained hold of our possessions, both natural and spiritual, which were lost from the first Adam.

Inheritance goes to the sons.

Due to reconciliation, we are no longer operating through lusts which bring about sin and death, but by the Spirit of God which is life everlasting. Wanting and using what God has given us is not being greedy. It is by the exceeding great and precious promises that we be partakers of the divine nature. It is the design of God.

II Pet 1:2-4. Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

[3] According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

[4] Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

The Jaimeson, Fausset and Brown Commentary explains the text as this: “Spiritual life must exist first before there can be godliness. The child must have vital breath, then cry to, and walk in the ways of, his father. It is not by godliness we obtain life, but by life, godliness.”

It is a fierce fight for man to repossess the rightful property and inheritance, but it is vital that we take that breath. Or, we can say that the spiritual life must be born, as in us being “born again” as spiritual sons. That which is born of flesh is flesh, and what is born of God’s Spirit is spirit. No matter how you look at it (natural or spiritual), if you are not born you do not have any life. If you do not have any life, it is then impossible to obtain godliness. God does not live in a dead thing.

–With each issue I am seeing more and more to dissect and discuss, but stay tuned as we conclude The Crime of Disobedience in the next segment at the end of this month.–
